Education shapes futures, yet many students face challenges simply because they lack basic school supplies. Recognizing this need, Ballers & Bookworms teamed up with the New Egypt High School National Honor Society to make a difference for students at PS 7Q Louis F Simeone School in Queens, New York. Together, they assembled and donated 14 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students who needed them most.

The Power of Partnership in Supporting Students
Ballers & Bookworms, an organization dedicated to promoting literacy and education, joined forces with the National Honor Society from New Egypt High School. This collaboration brought together community spirit and student leadership to address a pressing issue: many children at PS 7Q lacked the tools they needed to succeed in school.
The National Honor Society members took the lead in organizing the backpack drive. They reached out to donors, collected supplies, and packed the backpacks with care. Their involvement gave the project a personal touch, showing younger students that their peers cared deeply about their success.
What Went Into the Backpacks
Each of the 14 backpacks was carefully packed with a variety of school supplies chosen to meet the needs of elementary students. These included:
Notebooks and folders for organizing assignments
Pencils, pens, and erasers for writing and correcting work
Crayons and colored pencils to encourage creativity
By providing these supplies, the donors helped remove barriers that can distract students from learning. When children have what they need, they can focus on their lessons and feel more confident in the classroom.

The Impact on PS 7Q Students
PS 7Q Louis F Simeone School serves a diverse community in Queens, where many families face economic challenges. For some students, even basic school supplies are a luxury. Receiving a backpack full of supplies can boost a child’s morale and motivation.
Teachers at PS 7Q reported that students who received the backpacks showed excitement and gratitude. One teacher shared that having the right materials helped students participate more actively in class and complete homework more consistently.
This donation also sent a message that the community cares about these students’ education and future. It showed that people beyond the school walls are invested in their success.

How Donors Can Make a Difference
This project highlights how donors can have a direct and meaningful impact on students’ lives. Supporting initiatives like the backpack drive helps ensure that children start the school year prepared and ready to learn.
Donors interested in helping can:
Contribute school supplies or funds to local backpack drives
Partner with schools or community groups to identify needs
Volunteer time to organize and distribute supplies
Spread awareness about the importance of educational support
Every donation, no matter the size, adds up to a stronger foundation for students. When communities come together, they create opportunities for children to thrive.
A Model for Community Engagement
The collaboration between Ballers & Bookworms and New Egypt High School’s National Honor Society offers a model for how organizations and students can work together. It shows that giving back is not just about money but about time, effort, and care.
By involving high school students in the process, the project also fostered leadership skills and a sense of responsibility among young volunteers. This experience can inspire them to continue supporting their communities in the future.
Supporting students with school supplies is a simple yet powerful way to contribute to education equity. It helps level the playing field and gives every child a chance to succeed.
Continuing the Effort
The success of this backpack donation encourages ongoing support for PS 7Q and similar schools. Donors can stay connected by following local school needs and participating in future drives.
Together, Ballers & Bookworms, New Egypt High School, and generous donors have shown that small actions can create big changes. Providing students with the tools they need is an investment in their education and their future.
Supporting students means supporting the whole community. When children have what they need to learn, they grow into confident, capable adults who can give back in turn.
